Hannah Peschur Sculpture Park trip booklet GCSE 3D design
Celebrating their 40th Anniversary in 2024, The Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden exhibits an ever-changing collection of contemporary sculpture throughout the magical gardens. Surrounding a 15th century, Grade 2 listed cottage, the grounds have been lovingly restored and reinvented over the past 45 years by owner and renowned landscape designer Anthony Paul. Using a palette of broadleaved, architectural plants, ponds, and mature trees, Anthony and his wife Hannah Peschar have created a truly unique and magical environment. In the early 1980’s, Hannah Peschar created the Sculpture Garden - seeing an opportunity to create something distinctive and truly special within the garden. Over the past 40 years, the Sculpture Garden has continued to display and sell a huge variety of contemporary sculpture from artists across the UK and Europe. Placement is key - each sculpture is carefully sited in harmony with its surroundings. It might be how a tree or branch frames a piece, how textures or colours are mirrored from art to nature, or how the sun and shadows will interact with a sculpture throughout the day. The relationship between art and nature is fundamental to the Sculpture Garden, and this synergy gives the garden an atmosphere unlike any other. Artists come far and wide to exhibit their work each year. A plethora of materials, themes and ideas awaits visits - some out in clear view and others cleverly nestled amongst the dramatic fauna. Each sculpture (or series of sculpture) is given their own space - allowing the viewer to explore and appreciate each piece individually. Trip activities including observational drawings, find and take photo task, analysis and Bingo style games

Students begin by selecting from three broad themes — Fantastic & Strange, The Seaside or Nature — before developing ideas through mind maps, mood boards, observational research and a written rationale. The booklet then supports students in researching and analysing relevant artists and designers, with structured prompts to help them explain influences and make meaningful connections to their own work. The resource includes practical activities and planning sheets covering wood experimentation, carving, mixed media, CAD/CAM and laser cutting, wire modelling and designer-inspired product development. Students are encouraged to experiment with materials and techniques before producing six developed design ideas with clear links to their chosen designers. The final section provides a clear progress and evaluation checklist, helping students identify completed work and any areas that still need attention.
